Artist Statement #3/ brainstorming

When brainstorming for what I wanted to do for our final project involving projection mapping, I knew that I wanted to put more of myself in the project than I had for the previous two. To accomplish this, I knew that first and foremost I wanted to project on to objects that were personal to both myself and my general "art practice", resulting in me opting for most of the amps I own as well as one of my guitars. Music is my primary medium that I work in and it is essentially my whole life, so I saw it fitting that I was projecting on these objects. In terms of the source material, I also wanted to "reveal" parts of myself so to speak, so I opted for things from my past (mostly videogame and music related) to be projected. I selected a "frag movie" which is just a compilation of someones best moments in the game Counter Strike Source, the music video for Death Grips' song "Whatever I Want (Fuck Who's Watching)", as well as a compilation of FPS russias antics on youtube. The first two were things personal to me, while the FPS russia compilation seemed a good fit for its inherent absurdity as well as thematic cohesion with the guns in the counter strike video. I also chose to use one of the mad mapper presets for a geometric shapes as it fit with a pattern I had spray painted on one of my amps many years ago.

During this project I learned that I really love projection and that I want to continue to use it as a means to accentuate live music (which I did for my performance) and I hope to continue using these softwares in the future.
